About

Choice Healing Arts LLC has been noted for the individual attention that each person receives. With Oriental Medicine (OM), there are often “Side-Benefits,” where a patient comes in for an issue and finds that other things are also taken care of. As a holistic medicine, where the approach is to discern each person’s “Pattern” as well as the main complaint, Dr. Walston uses the OM style or styles that are best for each patient at the time. Approaches and techniques include a variety of acupuncture techniques, Five Element Traditional Chinese Medicine, Japanese Meridian Therapy, Classical Chinese Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, Chinese Scalp Acupuncture,  Auricular Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, AromaAcupoint Therapy,  Microcurrent and Millicurrent Electrical Stimulation, Cupping, Guasha, Tuina, Shiatsu, Cranio-Sacral Therapy, and  Moxibustion. There are different ways to get there from here, and together we choose the best path.

President

Dr. Walston’s patients describe her as a compassionate and competent partner in their healthcare. A general Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine practitioner, she serves Albuquerque and beyond in her private practice.

She is a nationally Board-Certified Doctor of Oriental Medicine, licensed in the State of New Mexico. She earned a Master of Science in Oriental Medicine from the accredited and internationally acclaimed program at Southwest Acupuncture College from the Albuquerque, NM branch. This rigorous four-year program included over 3,000 hours of classroom and clinical experience under the supervision of practicing DOM’s, MD’s, and DC’s. She had 3 internships at Health South Rehab hospital.

Dr. Walston is also a CMI, or Board Certified Medical Illustrator, with a Master of Arts in Biomedical Communications from UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX. After seeing many different kinds of medicine and helping medical doctors communicate about their work with her medical art for years, Oriental Medicine became a calling. An award-winning medical artist, her background in biomedicine adds a richness to her understanding and practice of Oriental Medicine.

She practices what she preaches in movement therapy by teaching an exercise class at a local YMCA called Mensendieck, which has evolved into “M-Synergy,” since she has added Qi Gong sequences to Dr. Mensendieak’s movement schemes.

On two occasions, Dr. Yvonne treated me at the onset of shingles.  The first time, the pain and sensitivity (and blistering) completely subsided the next day and didn’t reoccur for months.  This was amazing to me— in fact it came as a complete surprise— because I had asked Yvonne to treat a different condition and only happened to mention that I was experiencing an attack of shingles.
